Nokia Brand Licensing Requirements Guidelines

Role: Joint Lead Creative (Art Director / Designer)

In 2016, Nokia Technologies signed a licensing deal with Finnish-based HMD Global, giving them the rights to produce and sell Nokia devices globally.

With HMD’s creative agencies now responsible for marketing these Nokia-branded products – something which hadn’t been done in a while – new guidance was needed to steer the creative and ensure that the brand was upheld.

Our role was to create 7 different guideline documents for HMD and Nokia, with general best-practice guidance as well as specific brand guidance for the following topics: online advertising; co-branding; social media; out of home; print and retail, as well as a clear direction of photography.

We had to create – from scratch – a variety of creative campaign examples for each topic, against a set of new products provided by HMD. From these creative examples, we then set the guidance for HMD and their agencies to follow. Below are some of the creative examples from these guidelines.
